Before you ask

A few things people usually want to know.

When is the best time to visit Wayamba?

December to April is the dry season across the province - ideal for climbing the rock fortresses and for dolphin watching off Kalpitiya. Kitesurfers should instead aim for May to September, when the southwest monsoon brings the strongest winds to the lagoon.

How do I get around the province?

Kurunegala is the natural base - it sits within an hour of Yapahuwa, Panduwasnuwara, and Dambadeniya. A hired car with driver is the most practical option for reaching the sites; buses run between towns but rarely stop at the ruins themselves.

Do I need to dress a certain way at the temples?

Yes - shoulders and knees covered at any active temple site (Ridi Viharaya, Vijayasundararama, and the Ethugala summit temple all enforce this), and shoes off before stepping onto temple floors.
